How do I play the virtual marimba?▾
Use your keyboard: Z–/ for Low Register, A–; for Mid Register, Q–P for High Register. Each key triggers a short percussive hit, just like striking a marimba bar. Hold SPACE while pressing keys to enable tremolo.
What is the difference between mallet types?▾
Soft Yarn mallets produce a warm, mellow tone with fewer overtones — great for slow, lyrical playing. Medium mallets offer a balanced, versatile sound. Hard Rattan mallets produce a bright, articulate attack with rich overtones, ideal for fast technical passages.
Is this virtual marimba completely free?▾
Yes — the virtual marimba is 100% free with no account, download, or payment required. It works in any modern browser on PC, Mac, tablet, or smartphone.
How does tremolo work on a marimba?▾
Tremolo is achieved by rapidly alternating two mallets on the same note. In our virtual marimba, hold SPACE while pressing any key to activate tremolo mode, which automatically re-triggers the note at ~180 BPM, producing the characteristic shimmering effect.
Does the virtual marimba work on mobile?▾
Yes. Every bar is fully touch-enabled. Tap any bar to play it on Android or iOS. Multi-touch lets you play chords and multiple bars simultaneously. The layout is responsive and scrolls horizontally on small screens.
